Moldovan government describes cooperation with agricultural producers' associations as priority

Chisinau, 22 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with representatives of the Agricultural Producers’ Associations. The sides tackled subjects on implementing policies of developing this sector, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The prime minister said that agriculture was a priority field for Moldova and the constant dialogue between the central authorities and branch associations was necessary to have a comprehensive vision and act jointly to settle the present problems. Pavel Filip confirmed that the government was determined to back the farmers to cope with difficulties.
An important topic of the discussion was the adjusting of the legal framework for the development and support of business in this sector, as well as the financial backing provided from the fund of subsidizing farmers. In this context, Filip referred to the decisions, recently passed by the cabinet, aimed at facilitating and developing businesses in the Moldovan agro-food sector.
“The reform process in this sector will continue also through carrying out the provisions of the Roadmap, as this means getting the support of foreign partners, respectively funds for the local development in diverse areas, including the agriculture,” Pavel Filip said.
Among the issues touched upon at the meeting, there were irrigation of lands, unfair competition on the domestic market, need of competent institutions’ involvement in researching and developing new varieties of fruits and vegetables, as well as the bureaucratic system within the authorities in charge.
Following the discussions, Prime Minister Pavel Filip instructed the creation of a working group, made up of representatives of competent central public authorities and Agricultural Producers’ Associations, in order to identify and settle problems in the field, to create a friendly environment for Moldova’s agro-food industry.
