Chisinau, 23 April /MOLDPRES/-Odeon cultural center hosted the inauguration of the 10th edition of the American Film Festival, in Chisinau on 23 April. The festival will last until 29 April.
A number of 16 films will be presented during the festival, all of them having free-of-charge entrance.
The deputy head of the U.S. diplomatic mission to Moldova, Julie Stufft, said the USA was one of the biggest film exporters.
According to her, this festival is the most important cultural event organized by the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau. Each edition of this festival has a certain topic. Its current topic is: if you have an idea to make the world a better place, then put it into practice.
The film “Pay it Forward”, with Helen Hunt, Kevin Spacey and Haley Joel Osment, was broadcast during the first day of the festival.
The film shows how a school social studies assignment leads to social changes, that spread from city to city. Assigned to come up with some idea that will improve mankind, a young boy decides that if he can do three good deeds for someone and they in turn can "pay it forward" and so forth, positive changes can occur. What appears to initially be a failure, is indeed a success that is not immediately known but is traced backwards by an interested reporter. The effects of the assignment soon ripple throughout the country, creating lasting positivism in the lives of many.
The festival will end on 29 April with the movie “Scent of a Woman”, with Al Pacino, Chris O’Donnell and James Rebhorn in the leading roles. The films will be presented in original (in English) with Romanian subtitles.
