Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/- The European Union finances restoration works underway at schools from three villages of the left bank of the Dniestre. As a result, over 800 children will have access to education in modern and safe conditions.

A press release by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Representative Office in Moldova says that the reconstruction of schools from Nezavertailovca, Hlinaia şi Chitcani villages are carried out due to the Support to Confidence-Building Measures Programme, implemented by UNDP with EU sources.

“The Nezavertailovca-based school was put into operation in 1964 and during more than half a century, it was never capitally repaired. The old heating system could no longer cope with things. Surely, the education process will improve after the completion of works on setting new heating systems and restoration of a school building,” headmaster Olga Slobodzian said.

Also, the EU will finance the reconstruction of sports and festivities halls at the school from Hlinaia and several buildings from Chitcani-based school. As many as 150,000 euros was earmarked for each institution.

Under the above-mentioned programme, the EU financed renovation of 70 units of social infrastructure on both banks of the Dniester river. The programme contributes to enhancing confidence between residents of the Dniestre by involvement of representatives of local authorities, civil society, business communities and other sides interested in joint projects on business development and renovation of infrastructure.
