Moldovan PM attends festivity dedicated to National Flag Day

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today attended a festivity dedicated to Moldova’s National Flag Day, held at the headquarters of the Defence Ministry, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
In his speech given at the event, the prime minister said that the holiday inspires him feelings of pride, as the state flag represented the past, present and future of the country, historical tradition and was identified with Moldova’s sovereignty.
‘’The state flag is hoisted on buildings of the most important international and regional institutions, at Moldova’s diplomatic missions from abroad, it means our country’s openness for friendship and cooperation, and is also a symbol of union of the Diaspora. More and more citizens raise the flag at their homes and this fact bring us close to each other, representing us as a people united in the wish to edify a prosperous future,’’ Pavel Filip said.
At the same time, the prime minister referred also to the importance of the national symbol for servicemen in fulfilling the noble task to guard the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova, as well as for Moldovan sportspeople, who bore with dignity the banner at Olympic Games, world and European championships.
The National Flag Day was established by the Moldovan parliament on 23 April 2010. The Tricolor officially became state flag on 27 April 1990, under a decision by lawmakers of the first Moldova’s parliament.
