Moldova ICT Summit-2016 starts in Chisinau

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/- Over 1,000 participants from 20 countries today brought together in Chisinau at Moldova ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Summit-2016. The event is at its seventh issue and is regarded as the most important forum of Moldova in the information technology and communications.
“Moldova ICT Summit proved that it is an effective platform of cooperation between the ICT sector, government, business community, development partners and civil society. By joint efforts, the IT branch is one of the most developed and dynamic of the country, with a value exceeding six billion lei in 2015”, Information Technology and Communication Minister Vasile Botnari said at the opening of the forum.
The official noted that, in 2016, it was important to make an assessment of maturity of the ICT industry in Moldova, by identifying the technological opportunities and models due to be implemented to ensure a sustainable development of the sector.
Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip highlighted the importance of developing the ICT sector in Moldova. ”This is an industry bringing a high added value, fitting Moldova greatly. By developing the IT sector, we will enhance competitiveness of all branches of the national economy,” the prime minister stressed.
The event’s guests were greeted also by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, who assured that all efforts would be taken, so that the best IT ideas should be supported by legislation, in order to be efficiently implemented.
During two days, different projects on competitiveness and startups in the information technology sector will be presented at the forum. The summit’s agenda includes more sections on organization of sessions concerning development, education, business, etc.
The seventh issue of the Moldova ICT Summit is organized by the national association of ICT companies, under the patronage of the Information Technology and Communications Ministry, in partnership with the Competitiveness Project of United States Agency for International Development, Austrian Development Agency, Council of Europe, Novateca Programme, Education Ministry, Microsoft company and others.
