Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/-The Moldovan parliament organized a charity fair today to offer financial support to children placed in orphanages and care centers. The event was organized at the initiative of Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu for the second year consecutively, on the eve of Easter holidays, the parliament’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Children from almost 20 placement centers from Chisinau sold their Easter-themed handicrafts, such as baskets, icons, paintings, tapestries and other handmade objects. The works were exhibited on the hall of the Parliament and were purchased by MPs and parliament’s civil servants.
Candu congratulated children on the upcoming Easter holidays, thanking them for their work.
“On the eve of Easter it is very important that we stop for a moment, forget out daily concerns and remember that besides politics, there is also faith, tolerance and justice we should pay attention to,” Candu noted.
The parliament speaker urged Moldovan MPs to back these children and buy their handicrafts.
Attending the charity fair at the parliament were also Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova, Most Right Reverend Vladimir, Metropolitan of Basarabia and Exarch of the Territories, Most Right Reverend Petru, as well as Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Chisinau, Monsignor Anton Cosa.
“Children and their works bring closer the Feast of the Resurrection. I will donate the handmade objects I have purchased today to the Patriarch of Jerusalem, when I go to the Holy Land,” Metropolitan Vladimir said.
“Easter holidays are approaching and all of us should clean our souls and show love for our fellows,” Metropolitan Petru said.
Children sang Easter songs to Moldovan MPs. The parliament speaker offered dictionaries, fruits, sweets and cakes to each of the children who participated in the fair.
The parliament’s secretariat organized a charity “Sweets fair” last week to collect money for a socially vulnerable family.
