National Bank of Romania to back central bank of Moldova in diverse fields of interest

Chisinau, 3 May /MOLDPRES/ - Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) Sergiu Cioclea and his adviser Marin Molosag on 28-29 April paid a working visit to the National Bank of Romania (BNR). The visit’s goal was to ensure continuity and development of cooperation relations between BNM and BNR.
According to the press service of the National Bank of Moldova, attending the meeting on behalf of the National Bank of Romania were BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu, First Deputy Governor Florin Georgescu, Deputy Governors Bogdan Olteanu and Liviu Voinea.
The officials of the central banks of Moldova and Romania highlighted the good carrying out, according to the plan, of the Twinning Project financed by EU, based on a partnership with the National Bank of Romania and National Bank of the Netherlands. The sides acknowledged the progress made at present, afferent to the concerned project on building BNM’s capacity in the sector of banking regulation and supervision, in the context of EU’s requirements. The achievements regard the assessment of the impact of the switch to the Basel III requirements, approval by BNM of the strategy of implementation of Basel III standards, through the light of the European legislative framework, etc.
The BNR leadership further expressed openness to support the central bank of Moldova in diverse fields of interest, via exchanging experience and technical assistance for improving and consolidating the banking regulation and supervision instruments, in line with EU practices.
