Chisinau, 6 May /MOLDPRES/- President Nicolae Timofti has conveyed a message on Europe Day, saying that “united Europe presently became a fortress of democracy, transparency, diversity and identity of all nations”, the presidential press service has reported.
The message reads:
“Dear fellow citizens,
The European community today celebrates Europe Day, commemorating the historical declaration of French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, who laid the foundation stone of what is currently the European Union. Starting from 1950, the day of 9 May has become one of reference in the history of postwar Europe.
Following the consequences of a painful event in the history – the World War II – European nations made efforts to revive the national industries and economies, to raise living standards, as well as to avoid a third world war. “The world peace cannot be ensured without making creative efforts, proportionate to the dangers threatening it,” the declaration said.
The United Europe has become a fortress of democracy, transparency, diversity and identity of all nations, with all these embodying the values of freedom, which express, in fact, the essence of the European Union.
For Moldova, the project initiated by France and Germany, 5 years after the end of World War II, has become a priority of national importance. Advancement on the European agenda represents the major goal of the ruling coalition and certainly meets the aspirations of our citizens.
The implementation of the provisions of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement is a guarantee and a confirmation of the joint efforts taken to integrate our people into great family of European nations.
The liberalisation of the visa regime for Moldovans represents a common victory of concrete steps made in the European reforms' sector. Now, as never before, it is important that we are united in ideals and deeds, to persevere on the European way and to affirm with dignity that Europe is our common home. And like good managers as we are by tradition, we have to take care that honesty, goodwill and integrity shelter in this house, and this means European vocation.
Happy birthday, Europe!”
