Moldovan PM welcomes participants in veterans' march in north Moldova town

Chisinau, 6 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today attended a ceremony on paying homage to veterans of the World War II, Afghanistan War, Transnistria War, as well as of the participants in the Chernobyl accident relief works. The event is organised in the northern Edinet town the second year in a row on the Orthodox holiday of Saint George the Victorious, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.      

In his speech, Pavel Filip expressed gratitude to the veterans for their contribution to ensuring the country’s peace and independence.   

“We will take care that the values for which you fought, especially peace, be protected, turned to good account and conveyed to the new generation,” the prime minister said.    

At the same time, Pavel Filip noted that the essential values for a modern and prosperous state are tolerance, solidarity, humanity, wish to propagate peace and not violence, which after being put in practice, ensure harmony and understanding in the society.   

During the action, Veterans’ March – Peace Messenger, the prime minister discussed with participants in the war and their relatives problems they are facing and the support provided by the government to improve their living standards. In the context, Filip referred to the launch of an action plan to back veterans, Memory. Honour. Respect.     

The prime minister participated in the setting of a foundation stone on the place where a monument to all heroes who died in war will be constructed and laid flowers at the Grieving Mother monument from Edinet.   

In the end of the visit, Pavel Filip went to the Birth of God monastery from the Zabriceni village, where he attended a religious service. At the event, Bishop of Edinet and Briceni Nicodim awarded a distinction, ”Sfîntul și dreptul Nicodim”, (Saint and Righteous Nicodim) to the prime minister, as a token of gratitude for supporting the Orthodox Church.
