Chisinau, 6 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Defence Ministry has voiced concern about the intention of the Operative Group of Russian Forces (OGRF), temporarily deployed on the left bank of Dniester, to participate, along with the armed forces of the breakaway Transnistrian republic, in a parade organised in Tiraspol on the occasion of the 9 May Day.

A press release by the Defence Ministry reads that the military institution’s position was set forth by the head of the defence policy and defence planning directorate at the ministry, colonel Alexandru Harea, during a meeting with the military attaché of Russia, Igor Dovbnya.

Colonel Harea said that neither the presence of the members of the office of the Russian military attaché for Moldova was welcome at this event.

For his part, Colonel Igor Dovbnya said that, “taking into account the schedule of activities organised in Chisinau by the Embassy of Russia in Moldova, no member of the office of the Russian military attaché will take part in the Tiraspol parade. Nevertheless, the Russian military diplomat stressed that the status of members of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) allows them paying visits to the left bank of Dniester on 9 May this year, in order to monitor the situation in the region.”

The Defence Ministry’s representatives highlighted that an eventual visit by JCC members should be discussed within this commission.
