Moldovan premier attends commemoration ceremony of World War II fallen heroes

Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister Pavel Filip, President Nicolae Timofti, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, as well as cabinet members, veterans, residents and guests of the capital commemorated the heroes fallen in World War II, during a ceremony at the Eternity memorial venue in the morning today, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.

The prime minister laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, observing a minute of silence in the memory of the fallen heroes, accompanied by metronome beats and a three-volley salute carried out by the honour guard. The official then laid flowers at the Stella of Moldovan Heroes, Grieving Mother monument and commemorative stones.

On the occasion of Victory Day and commemoration of the heroes fallen for the motherland’s independence, the government offered material aid accounting to 10 thousand lei to World War II veterans, and five thousand lei to veterans who were not members of the active army. A total of 1,700 people received state aid on 9 May this year.

More ceremonies were organized in Moldova today, on the 71st anniversary of the World War II end, to commemorate fallen heroes, inclusively at “Serpeni Foothold” complex. People have also been offered free-of-charge possibility to visit more museums around the country, including the Museum of the Military Culture and History Centre in Chisinau.
