Chisinau, 10 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) of Moldova has expressed perplexity about the participation, for the first time ever, of military units from the Operative Group of Russian Forces (OGRF), illegally deployed in Moldova’s Transnistrian region, in the military parade held in Tiraspol on 9 May.
Chisinau remained so much the more surprised, taking into account the insistent requests addressed to the Russian authorities to abstain from such actions. In particular, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry notes that Foreign Minister Andrei Galbur, at a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Moldova Farit Mukhametshin on last Friday, 6 May 2016, requested refraining from any presence of Russian servicemen and military equipment at the events organised in the Transnistrian region on 9 May.
As it is obvious, the participation of Russian servicemen, along with military and paramilitary formations of the Tiraspol regime in the events occasioned by the Day of Victory over Nazism runs counter the commitments taken by Russia in line with the principles and norms of the international law. Or, according to official statements repeatedly made by Russian high-ranking officials, this state committed to observe the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova – a commitment stipulated also in the Treaty on friendship and cooperation between Moldova and Russia.
The Foreign and European Integration Ministry voices hope that the authorities of Russia will observe with good faith the norms and principles of the international law and, in the long run, they will abstain from actions able to jeopardize the good relations between our states.
