Moldova fails to qualify for final of Eurovision Song Contest 2016

Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has failed to qualify for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 this year too. Moldova’s representative at the contest, Lidia Isac, sang her song, Falling Stars, on stage in Stockholm on 10 May evening. Unfortunately, she did not get the needed number of votes to switch to the next phase of the contest.
Azerbaijan, Russia, the Netherlands, Hungary, Croatia, Austria, Armenia, the Czech Republic, Cyprus and Malta are the ten countries to participate in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
Another ten countries are to be designated for the final at the second semifinal of Eurovision 2016, due on 12 May.
Moldova failed to qualify at the semifinal of Eurovision for the third time in a row. In 2014 and 2015, singer Cristina Scarlat and Ukrainian Eduard Romanyuta, respectively, failed to qualify Moldova for the contest’s final.
Eurovision is an international musical competition, organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) - the biggest association of European public televisions. The first issue of the contest took place in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1956. Broadcast uninterruptedly, the show has become one of the most long-lasting and watched TV programmes worldwide. Along the artists to sing on the Eurovision’s stage during years, there were the ABBA band, Julio Iglesias, Celine Dion and Johnny Logan.
Moldova participated in this contest for the 12th time. So far, Moldova has been represented at Eurovision by Zdob si Zdub band, Natalia Gordienko, Natalia Barbu, Geta Burlacu, Nelly Ciobanu, Sun Stroke Project and Olia Tira, Pavel Parfeni, Aliona Moon, Cristina Scarlat, Eduard Romanyuta and by Lidia Isac this year.
Moldova recorded the best result at this contest with the Zdob si Zdub band in 2005, and ranked sixth.
