Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/- Moldova and Romania will have a joint customs checkpoint starting from 2017. The heads of Customs Services from Moldova and Romania, Vitalie Vrabie and Claudiu Ardeleanu, respectively, made statements to this effect at a today's news conference.
Vitalie Vrabie said the Cahul-Oancea joint customs checkpoint would operate starting from 2017. The point will provide passengers' customs control just at a single barrier. “This new strategy will shorten the time for citizens' control procedures and will enhance their comfort”, Vrabie said.
For his part, the head of the Romanian General Customs Directorate, Claudiu Ardeleanu, noted that the implementation of the joint state border crossing would exclude barriers to citizens' travels, as well as to goods export or import.
“We are sure this joint approach of good understanding and mutual respect will yield results not only at the level of leadership, but also for ordinary travelers, who are, in fact, the main beneficiaries of this new working method. This is a world practice we try to implement, in order to have benefits in terms of promptness and safety of passengers' movement from one country to another,” he said.
There are eight customs checkpoints between Moldova and Romania, of which two railway and six by road ones.
