Moldovan cabinet approves building monument to Alexei Mateevici, Simeon Murafa, Andrei Hodorogea in Chisinau

Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/- The cabinet today approved building by restoration of a monument to the three martyrs - Alexei Mateevici, Simeon Murafa and Andrei Hodorogea in the Square of Birth of God Cathedral in Chisinau, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The monument dedicated to the memory of the three personalities: Alexei Mateevici, Simeon Murafa and Andrei Hodorogea, militants of national movement from Bessarabia of the early 20th century, was installed around the cathedral in 1923. Subsequently, in 1940 the monument’s parts of bronze were evacuated in Romania, and the stone elements were destroyed.
Alexei Mateevici is the author of Limba Noastra (Our Language) ode, which is the anthem of Moldova since 1994. Simeon Murafa was a publicist and editor of the Cuvintul Moldovenesc (Moldovan Word) newspaper, and Andrei Hodorogea – an engineer. All of them were important figures of the political and cultural life from Bessarabia.
Also, the cabinet accepted a proposal on building a monument to Stefan cel Mare ruler in Costesti village, Ialoveni district. The monument’s installation was requested by the citizens from the settlement and aims at fortifying patriotic education of young generation.
The expenses for design and edification of both monuments will be covered from donations and external sponsors.
