Moldovan, Romanian officials approach bilateral economic relations

Chisinau, 12 May /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic today met Romanian Minister for Public Finances Anca Dana Dragu in London. The officials discussed the issues of the Moldovan-Romanian economic relations and perspectives for boosting them at all levels. Attending the talks was also National Bank Governor Sergiu Cioclea.
According to the Economics Ministry’s press service, the talks were focused on implementing investment projects, using present platforms or creating new ones. Another topic was related to the reforms in the financial and banking system, implemented by the Moldovan authorities, and possibility to use Romania’s experience in solving problems in the concerned sector.
Octavian Calmic and Anca Dana Dragu approached the problem on Romania providing Moldova with first installment worth 60 million euros of the 150-million-euros-worth credit. Calmic informed Dragu about the sectors of national economy in which the money will be used, as well as about projects due to be carried out with the support of the Romanian credit.
In the context, the deputy prime minister and BNM Governor Sergiu Cioclea informed the Romanian official about the dialogue of the Moldovan authorities with the International Monetary Fund and prospects for signing a new agreement with the financial institution.
Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmic participates in an annual meeting of EBRD Board of Governors, held in London on 10-12 May.
