Chisinau, 12 May /MOLDPRES/ - A new round of five-plus-two negotiations on the Transnistrian conflict settlement will be organised during the next two months. Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
According to the official, the political representatives on behalf of Chisinau and Tiraspol confirmed willingness to participate in the five-plus-two talks. “I encouraged the sides to actively get involved in the process of creating the agenda of subjects due to be discussed, to maintain the meetings of the working groups, as well as the one-plus-one meetings,” Cord Meier-Klodt said.
The OSCE representative has earlier said that, among the main subjects due to be discussed at the talks, there were free movement, education, transport and telecommunication areas. “I am to pay a working visit to Kiev and Moscow, in order to unveil the achievements of this meeting, after which we will discuss with the other members the willingness to take part in the negotiations and we will already send the invitations themselves,” the official added.
Cord Meier-Klodt is paying a visit to Moldova on 10-12 May. The OSCE representative discussed with Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Gheorghe Balan and Tiraspol’s political representative Vitaly Ignatyev. Also, Meier-Klodt had meetings with resident ambassadors of the mediators and observers in the five-plus-two process, in order to continue coordination in terms of advancing the process.
The meetings in the five-plus-two format include representatives of the sides, mediators and observers in the negotiating process: Moldova, Transnistria, OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, the USA and EU. The last five-plus-two negotiations took place in June 2014, after which Tiraspol had blocked more attempts to resume talks between the sides.
