Chisinau, 13 May /MOLDPRES/- The parliament today held a festive meeting to mark the Europe Day.
An exhibition titled “Europe through children’s eyes” was staged in the parliament’s hall. The exhibition comprises drawings made by children from different Moldovan settlements. The best 12 works will be included in a calendar of the parliament dedicated to Europe Day.
Attending the plenary meeting were the ambassadors of the diplomatic missions and international organizations from Moldova. A video spot about citizens’ expectations from EU was presented at the beginning of the meeting.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu conveyed a congratulatory message on this occasion. “EU means a better future for all citizens from Moldova, and Europe Day is the holiday representing unity and prosperity, freedom and democracy, diversity and equality, - qualities needed to be found both in parliament and society,” he said.
“Moldova’s future is only in EU, where there are values and the human rights are observed. We thank very much the European states for contribution to our country and I congratulate once again the citizens on marking this holiday”, the head of the parliamentary faction of the Liberal Democratic Party, Tudor Deliu, said.
The leader of the Party of Communists, Vladimir Voronin, said that “the basis of the changes was victory of Soviet troops over fascism; therefore, we should not forget honoring their memory”.
“We have to maintain good relations with EU; yet, with European slogans, embezzlements have occurred over the last years,” the leader of the Party of Socialists, Igor Dodon, said.
Today, a light show will be organized starting from 21:00. The parliament’s building will be lighted up in colors of the EU flag and Moldova's tricolour.
The Europe Day is marked yearly on 9 May; it is one of the European symbols, meant to promote unity and peace among Europeans.
