Trilateral agreement due to improve Moldovan water supply, sanitation sector signed in Chisinau

Chisinau, 13 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Environment Ministry, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Austrian Development Agency signed an agreement on implementation of a project for strengthening the Moldovan water supply and sanitation sector in Chisinau today.
The project is to be carried out till September 2019 and has a budget of 4.4 million euros, due to be provided by donors from Switzerland and Austria.
The programme is focused on three basic components, and offers support for developing the water supply and sanitation area, integrated management of water resources, as well as for the creation of information systems in this sector.
“With the implementation of this project, more branch institutions will strengthen their powers and abilities, in order to be able to meet residents’ expectations in terms of supply with quality water and sanitation. As a priority, we will pay attention to rural settlements and disadvantaged families,” Environment Minister Valeriu Munteanu said at the ceremony on signing the agreement.
The document signed today fits into the 2014-2028 national strategy of water supply and sanitation. The strategy sees more actions meant to improve the residents’ health by reducing diseases association with water.
