EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee to hold meeting in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/- The second meeting of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee will take place in Chisinau on 18-19 May, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The co-heads of the parliamentary committee, Mihai Ghimpu and MEP Andi Cristea, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur, as well as Head of EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola will open the event.

At the meeting, MEPs and Moldovan MPs will exchange opinions on the current stage of cooperation between Moldova and EU, achievements recorded in implementing the reforms agenda and recent political events in the country. The lawmakers will discuss the reforms in justice, fighting corruption, public administration, observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms, the economic, financial, electoral situation, as well as the one from the media of Moldova.

A special topic on the agenda will be focused on authorities’ cooperation with the civil society in implementing the reforms agenda. Also, a seminar on parliamentary control over the European integration process in Moldova will be organized with the participation of MPs, MEPs and development partners.

After the meeting of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, a final declaration of the second meeting will be adopted. The document will comprise a string of recommendations  to the authorities of Moldova and European Commission. The co-heads of the Committee, Mihai Ghimpu and Andi Cristea, will hold a news conference on 18 May starting from 15:00.

Under the agenda, the delegation of European Parliament within the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee will have meetings with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur.

The Moldovan parliamentary delegation is made up of MPs Mihai Ghimpu, Igor Vreamea, Iurie Leanca, Igor Dodon, Ion Balan, Oxana Domenti, Tudor Deliu, Victor Mindru, George Mocanu, Sergiu Sirbu, Andrei Neguta, Grigore Novac and Corneliu Padnevici. The delegation of the European Parliament is composed of MEPs Andi Cristea, Michal Boni, Norica Nicolai și Petras Auštrevičius.

The EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee holds meetings twice a year in Brussels and Chisinau. The first meeting of the forum took place in Brussels on 21-22 September 2015.
