More events to be organised in Moldova on occasion of International Museum Day

Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ - More cultural actions will be held in Chisinau on the occasion of the International Museum Day, annually marked on 18 May, as well as of the European Museum Night, marked on 21 May in 2016.  

At a news conference held in Chisinau today, Culture Minister Monica Macovei referred to the importance of marking the International Museum Day. Macovei stressed that she assumed responsibility for organising the event in the subordinated institutions.   

“This move turns to good account the collections from our museums, some of them quite rich and nice, and which bring a serious flow of people coming to visit these institutions on the museums’ night, with over 55,000 visitors recorded in the last year issue,’’ the official said. Monica Babuc noted that, this year too, the museums would display their collections in diverse sectors, providing nice surprises, activities for the public of all ages.   

The key event of this year issue is an international seminar within the CHOICE programme, financed by EU, due at the Casa Parinteasca Museum from the Palanca village, central Calarasi district, on 21 May. Experts in the cultural patrimony sector from Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and Armenia will participate in the seminar.    

The museums of the Dubasari and Singerei districts announced their participation in the current issue of the International Museums Day for the first time ever.

The International Museums Day was established in 1977, at an initiative by the French Culture and Communication Ministry, and is marked yearly on 18 May. The work of the museums during one year is summed up on this day.  

The European Museums Nights is a success event initiated by the Culture and Communication Ministry of France in 2005. The event is traditionally patronized by the Council of Europe, UNESCO and International Council of Museums. The European Museums Night is the night counterpart of the International Museum Day, held annually on 18 May. Over 3,000 museums of about 50 countries from Europe and all over the world have joined this event on this period.    

The main cultural actions will take place at three national-level institutions subordinated to the ministry: National Art Museum of Moldova, National History Museum and National Ethnography and Natural History Museum. Attending the news conference, the directors of the three institutions, Tudor Zbirnea, Eugen Sava and Mihai Ursu unveiled the schedule of events due to be held on 18 and 21 May.     

As many as 118 museums and their branches are included in the Museums’ Register of Moldova. Two new museums were recorded this year – in the Hasnasenii Mari village, northern Drochia district and Negrea village, central Hincesti district.
