Moldova participates in session of Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur, today participated in the Session of the Council of Europe’s (CoE) Committee of Ministers, held in Sofia, Bulgaria, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
In his speech, Minister Andrei Galbur evoked the support the Council of Europe was providing Moldova in its efforts of modernisation and reforms’ promotion. In the context of the process of settlement of protracted conflicts, including the Transnistrian one, Galbur appealed to the need of measures to strengthen confidence and observe the human rights. In particular, the minister stimulated the CoE’s continuous attention given to the Latin-script schools from the Transnistrian region. Also, the Moldovan official referred to the challenges faced by the organisation and the European continent, as well as the need to promote responsibility and common values, in order to ensure the democratic security in Europe.
Within the ministerial session, the heads of the diplomacies approved a string of decisions on the third report by the Secretary General on the situation in terms of human rights, democracy and rule of law in Europe titled, A Security Imperative for Europe, fighting violent extremism and radicalization, which lead to terrorism, Council of Europe’s response to the crisis of refugees, ensuring the long-term efficiency of the system of the European Convention on Human Rights, CoE’s neighbourhood policy and the key role of democracy, human rights and rule of law in settling conflicts.
At a ceremony held in the end of the meeting, Estonia took over the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers from Bulgaria, which had exercised it in the last six months.
