Moldovan president attends meeting of military college

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Nicolae Timofti today attended a meeting of the Defence Ministry’s Military College, the presidential press service has reported.

The participants in the meeting brought for discussion issues of development and modernisation of the National Army’s capabilities, as well as maintaining the military discipline and the law and order.

In a speech given following the debates, the head of state pointed out a string of subjects which must taken into account by the Defence Ministry’s leadership while working out a draft on the process of development of the National Army and implementing measures of strengthening the military discipline.   

In this respect, the president stressed that the combat effectiveness should stay a priority for the National Army, and the problem of military discipline needs an exhaustive treatment.  

At the same time, Timofti stressed the importance to qualitatively carry out the process of revising the strategic documents and normative framework specific to the defence sector. In this respect, the president urged the Army’s leadership to take advantage, as much as possible, of the experience and expertise of the foreign partners, United States, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and European Union in the consolidation of the state’s defence capacity.   

Also, the president reiterated the further support of Defence Ministry’s initiatives and efforts in terms of settling the problems faced by servicemen. Nicolae Timofti also thanked for the constant devotion and dedicated proved by all the National Army’s military while fulfilling the job duties.
