Moldovan deputy premier meets World Bank Country Manager

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/- Implementation of electricity interconnection projects with Romania represents one of the Moldovan government’s priorities, as finally, it will ensure both connection to the Community system and increasing energy security of the country. Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic made the statement at a meeting with World Bank Country Manager for Moldova Alex Kremer on 18 May. The officials discussed issues related to the bilateral cooperation in energy sector, including the implementation of interconnection projects through Romania with the Community system.
In the context, Calmic noted that the possibilities to build 3 interconnection lines were considered.
Also, he pointed out that the national authorities were in a continuous dialogue with different international institutions and potential partners to carry out the projects. “The problem on implementing the interconnection projects was tackled by the Moldovan delegation with different partners and within an annual meeting of EBRD governors in London, where we were assured by the leadership of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, authorities of Romania, other states and international institutions”, he said.
At the same time, the two officials assessed the implementation of a project on unifying power enterprises from Chisinau, and said that the creation of a single institution, Termoelectrica, had allowed optimizing the services provided to the end consumers. In the context, Kremer said that to complete the project, the authorities had to take certain measures to modernize the institution and heat distribution systems, to implement new forms of service delivery etc.
Kremer pointed out that his institution was interested in implementing new investment projects in different sectors of national economy, including in the energy sector.
