UN Food and Agriculture Organisation to provide 400,000 dollars for integrated protection of plants in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations will provide the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) with 400,000 dollars for the integrated protection of plants in Moldova.
MAIA’s press service today said that participants in a working seminar organised by the aforementioned institutions had ruled to develop a strategy and a programme on the Management of Integrated Protection of Plans in Moldova. Attending the event were specialists in the plants’ protection field and safety of food products of vegetal origin, scientists and experts in the sector.
At the event, Deputy Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Iurie Usurelu said that “it is necessary to undertake enhanced measures in the above-mentioned field, as no needed attention has been paid to this major problem so far.”
For his part, FAO regional Officer for Europe and Central Asia Avetik Nersisyan stressed that “the programme is extremely important for increasing the productivity in the agricultural sector, that will develop an integrated system of plants’ protection.”
According to specialists in the field, the elaboration of the strategy and programme of the Management of Integrated Protection of Plans in Moldova will contribute to getting stable high quality harvests, will reduce risks of pollution of the environment and the agricultural production and will enhance the long-term safety of food products.
