Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldovan-Ukrainian consultations were held at the Economics Ministry today. The participants in the event analyzed the trade and economic relations between the two countries, following a decision by the Moldovan government to introduce customs duties on the import of dairy products, meat products and cement from Ukraine till 31 December 2016.

According to the Economics Ministry’s press service, at the meeting, experts exchanged opinions on the emerged situation. In the context, Moldovan experts said that the concerned decision was provisional and was aimed at protecting the domestic market from massive imports from Ukraine, recorded on the last period, especially after Russia had put an embargo on Ukrainian goods.

The Ukrainian side expressed concern about the measures applied by Moldova and asked for information on imports of goods from Ukraine on the last period.

In this context, the experts’ groups agreed to as quickly as possible mutually present additional information on the evolution of import between the two states and the impact of the concerned decision on producers and the economies of Moldova and Ukraine.

To maintain traditionally stable relations of commercial and economic cooperation with the Ukrainian side, Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic will pay a working visit to Kiev on 6-7 June, to discuss the trade and economic relations with Ukrainian First Vice Prime Minister, Economic Development and Trade Minister Stepan Kubiv.
