Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/- President Nicolae Timofti chaired a meeting of the national council for law enforcement bodies reform on 24 May, the presidential press service has reported.

In his speech, the president said that the justice reform “is maybe the most important reform which is currently carried out in Moldova. The public opinion, as well as our development partners keep a close eye on it, and our duty is that this process be more authentic and deeper.”

The head of state underlined that “all of us want that the reforms underway yield long lasting results, which are to have a positive impact both at institutional and social levels. It means that we should consolidate the law institutions, make them really independent, and the act of justice should become reliable for citizens”.

In the context, Timofti noted that the judiciary system was the centre of order in the state, highlighting that Moldova's prosperity depends, to a great extent, on the success of justice reform.

Justice Minister Vladimir Cebotari pointed out, in an annual report on the level of implementation of the reform strategy in justice sector for 2011-2016, the most important achievements for 2015. The minister gave assurances that there was a clear determination both of political establishment and the actors of the judiciary system to continue the reform process.

For his part, Head of the EU Delegation to Chisinau Pirkka Tapiola stressed the opportunity to implement the reform strategy in justice sector, the enforcement of which was of special importance for Moldova’s future.

Attending the event were members of the national council for law enforcement bodies reform, representatives of development partners of Moldova and civil society.

The parliament adopted the reform strategy in the justice sector for 2011-2016 on 25 November 2011.
