Anti-corruption centre officers detain five persons, including three Chisinau city hall employees

Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - Officers of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) today detained, for 72 hour, five persons, of whom three employees of the Chisinau city hall, following searches carried out at the Chisinau city hall and homes of civil servants today morning. The five suspects are charged with involvement in a new file on corruption, according to the head of the CNA prosecution department, Bogdan Zumbreanu.   

At a today’s news conference, Zumbreanu noted that it was about the deputy head of the architecture, town planning and land relations department of the Chisinau city hall, one Chisinau deputy mayor, one chief inspector at the state inspectorate in constructions, as well as two persons acting as intermediaries. Zumbreanu did not make public the names of the persons detained.  

He also said that the offences discovered were related to speeding up the processing and issuance of acts for the privatization of uninhabitable rooms, change of the zones/lands and processing/issuance of the acts for the final reception of facilities.  

“On this case, ten criminal files have been opened on offences of active and passive corruption, influence peddling, abuse of power and forgery in public acts. Once the materials of the needed rules of evidence accumulated, 12 searches were carried out at the homes, job offices and cars of the persons involved in committing offences,” Bogdan Zumbreanu said.   

According to the head of the CNA prosecution department, the detained deputy mayor asked for medical assistance and was carried to the Emergency Hospital for medial investigations.

Presently, the detained people are in custody of CNA for 72 hours. Prosecutors are to decide on whether to make the charge and on whether they will ask the court to apply the preventive arrest measure.
