Moldovan deputy foreign minister meets OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities

Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Lilian Darii today met OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM) Astrid Thors, on a working visit to Moldova, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
The two officials discussed the sectors of cooperation between Moldova and HCNM, among which elaboration and subsequent implementation of the national strategy of strengthening the inter-ethnic relations, linguistic training of civil servants and backing national projects to this end.
Deputy Prime Minister Darii stressed the importance to promote the social integration of the national minorities, in particular, in such fields as participation in the public life, education processes, linguistic sector and mass media. At the same time, the deputy foreign minister noted that the observance of the national minorities’ rights was an important element in the Moldovan government’s programme.
For her part, High Commissioner Astrid Thors expressed the willingness of the Officer of the High Commissioner to further provide assistance to Moldova’s authorities to work out policies of national minorities’ integration.
As for the problem of Moldova-run Latin-script schools from the Transnistrian region, the sides stressed the need to ensure continuous and free work of the concerned education institutions.
