Chisinau, 27 May /MOLDPRES/-Four locomotives, repaired in the depots of the Moldovan Railways state-owned enterprise (CMF), were re-put into service today.
During the event, CMF director general Iurii Topala said “unfortunately, the institution currently has no locomotives with an ideal technical state”.
“CMF allotted almost 500 thousand dollars to restore these four locomotives, which will carry passengers throughout Moldova, up to its borders. After restoration, locomotives will be used for about ten more years, though their validity term has expired and should have been put out of operation long ago,” Topala noted.
The head of the locomotives’ repairing center, Alexei Adam, said “they spent almost half year to repair the locomotives in depots located in Basarabeasca, Balti, Bender and Chisinau. Almost 80 per cent of the locomotives’ parts have been replaced.”
On 25 March 2016, the Moldovan parliament ratified a grant agreement between Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), providing for a five-million-euro worth grant to purchase ten new multi-functional locomotives. The agreement is part of the Moldovan Railways Restructuring Project. EBRD provided Moldova with a 52.2-million-euro worth loan to this effect.
