Chisinau, 27 May /MOLDPRES/-The parliament adopted the electricity draft law in final reading today. The draft transposes EU directives on the implementation of the Third Energy Package.
The law defines the role and responsibilities of authorities in charge, functions, obligations and rights of the transportation and distribution operators, producers, suppliers and power consumers. It aims to guarantee the safety of the electricity supply and the proper functioning of the power system.
The draft sees that electricity consumers will be able to choose and change the supplier. “Each end consumer has the right to choose and change the supplier, if they have no debts towards their current supplier. End consumers also are entitled to access to all the relevant data on their power consumption,” the draft reads.
The draft aims to encourage the appearance of new participants on the Moldovan electricity market and thus help improve competitiveness in the energy sector and increase the security of power supply for end consumers.
The law will enter into force upon its publication in Moldova’s Official Journal.
