Moldovan delegation attends meeting of International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance

Chisinau, 27 May /MOLDPRES/-A Moldovan delegation headed by Ambassador for Special Missions, Ion Stavila, participated as an observer in the meeting of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), in Bucharest on 23-26 May 2016, in the context of Romania’s chairmanship of IHRA, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry has reported.
During his speech at the forum, Stavila touched upon the actions Moldovan authorities had taken recently to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and other crimes against the humanity. He emphasized, in particular, the availability of the government to further back the Jewish community along with the rest of the national minorities from Moldova, and help them keep and develop their identity, as well as reflect tragic historical events in the national educational system to prevent them from happening in the future.
For their part, the organizers of the forum in Bucharest welcomed the decision of Moldovan authorities to declare the day of 27 January as National Commemoration Day of Holocaust Victims, for the first time marked in Moldova this year. They praised the commitment of Moldova’s government to help IHRA achieve its goals, especially in the educational system.
