Moldovan intelligence service detains man suspected of jihadist connections

Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/- Officers of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) have counteracted an attempt by a foreign citizen to enter the territory of Moldova; the foreigner was born in North Caucasus and is connected with international jihadist entities.
The SIS press service said that the man had intended to cross the state border through the Palanca-Maiaki checkpoint. The man is wanted for quite serious offenses.
Following security checks, the investigation officers discovered “a string of elements confirming the radical visions of the foreigner, including information materials with extremist Islamic character”, SIS officers said.
For security reasons, the man was not allowed to enter Moldova, the person being returned in line with the international procedures and standards.
