First batch of fuel oil donated by Romania arrives to Chisinau

Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/-An amount of 24 railway tanks, with 1,300 tons of fuel oil reached Chisinau in the morning today. It is the first batch of the almost 16,000 tons of fuel oil, accounting for 58 million lei, the Romanian government has offered Moldova as humanitarian aid, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.

Attending the event, during which the fuel oil was received, were Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega, Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca, representatives of the Material Reserves Agency and Moldovan railways state-enterprise.

Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega thanked the Romanian government for its support, touching upon the distribution method to be used for this humanitarian aid. “We highly appreciate the assistance of the Romanian government. The fuel oil will be used to prevent risk situations in the energy sector. Part of it, will replenish the reserves of the Material Reserves Agency. Another part will be distributed to socially-vulnerable people during the cold season of the year. The intergovernmental commission is going to set up a method to distribute this aid,” Brega said.

Marius Lazurca said the last stage of Romania’s humanitarian transfer to Moldova would follow after the transportation of the fuel oil. “The the fuel oil will be used by thermal power plants in Chisinau, to produce heating, warm water and power, secondary. The fuel oil will alleviate Moldova’s energy burden and ensure its energy security,” Lazurca said.

A total of 11 railway tanks with fuel oil will arrive to Chisinau within a month and a half. The transportation of the fuel will be ensured by Moldovan railways state-enterprise. Previously, the Romanian government offered Moldova 1,170 tons of sugar and 20 thousand food parcels, to help socially-vulnerable people.
