Anti-tobacco law enters into force in Moldova

Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/-The anti-tobacco law, which prohibits smoking in more public locations and spaces, has entered into force today. Thus, natural persons who will violate the new provisions will be penalized with a fine from 1,000 to 3,000 lei. Legal persons will be fined up to 10,000 lei.
A statement to this effect was made by Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan during a news conference today.
According to the law, smoking will be prohibited in closed-type venues, transportation means, inclusively private ones with minors inside, under the roofs of public transportation stations, amusement parks and playgrounds, stadiums, arenas, markets and other open public spaces during social, entertainment or other types of events.
“Provisions will be made known by the employees of the Interior Ministry, who will be in charge of informing institutions of the amendments to the legislation. We count a lot on the population’s contribution to the efficient implementation of the law,” Jizdan said.
“The Health Ministry along with non-governmental organizations are systematically organizing information and awareness raising campaigns on subjects related to the anti-tobacco law.
The anti-tobacco law was adopted by the Moldovan parliament on 29 May 2015, aiming to protect population from harmful effects of smoking and exposure to toxic substances.
