Chisinau, 1 June /MOLDPRES/ - The heavy rainfall of the last night has caused multiple damages in more settlements of Moldova.
Today morning, Prime Minister Pavel Filip convened an emergency meeting on assessing the situation triggered by the torrential rains. The prime minister demanded verifications on the safety of dams, in order to avoid emergency situations. ”An accurate assessment must be made in all settlements where there are artificial lakes, in order to avoid their ceding in case of new precipitation and people’s dwellings should not be endangered,” Filip said.
Unveiled data shows that the water level increased in three water basins of the Iargara settlement, southern Leova district, and then the dam broke at one of the basins. Subsequently, a protective barrage was constructed and water was evacuated. At the same time, houses’ foundation was sub-flooded in eight households of the Loganesti village, central Hincesti district.
“By 3 am last night, the situation was stabilized, nobody suffered. Firemen, rescuers and policemen are involved in providing assistance to persons at risk,” the deputy head of the parliament’s commission for emergency situations, Mihail Harabagiu, said.
The participants in the meeting said that more cases of flooding of houses and basements had been recorded in Moldova. “Thirty households were hit in the Poganesti village, Hincesti district, with water penetrating 15 of them. Four teams of firemen work on the spot, pumping water from the homes affected. The basement of an apartment block was flooded in the Hincesti town. Presently, there are no dangers,” Harabagiu noted.
Transports and Roads Infrastructure Minister Iurie Chirinciuc said that roads from the central Ialoveni and southern Cimislia district had been worst hit, as the roadway was covered with mud on them. “Presently, we undertake measures to clean the roads and normalize the movement of vehicles in the country,” Chirinciuc said.
“In the Chisinau municipality, the National Patrolling Inspectorate banned drivers from entering the zones hit. There were traffic jams on the Muncesti and Albisoara streets, but the situation has normalized,” Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan said.
„At present, we work to strengthen dams and inspect the lakes from territorial subdivisions. We established that the Dniester and Prut allowed abundant precipitation,” Jizdan added.
Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Eduard Grama said that “no essential losses have been recorded in the agricultural sector; there was hail in several settlements, which caused breakings of vine. During time, we will assess the situation to establish all the damages registered.”
Data by the State Hydrometeorological Service shows that unstable weather is forecast for the next days, with short rains, heavy and with hail in places.
