Chisinau, 1 June /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today morning chaired a new meeting of decision-makers from competent institutions, in order to assess the situation triggered by the heavy rainfall and measures taken to manage it. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Operational Management Centre in Emergency Situations, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
At the meeting, the prime minister demanded unveiling of accurate reports on the estimated damages, situation of dams, national and local roads, regarding the connections to energy supply and farmlands. Also, the participants in the meeting heard a report on the weather forecast for the immediately next period, in order to decide on needed preventive measures.
“I demand presentation of exact and correct reports, so that we have a clear picture and take the necessary measures. Let us not forget that there are people hit and we must act quickly. You will be responsible with the positions you have, if you unveil wrong data,” Pavel Filip stressed.
According to the Civilian Protection and Emergency Situations Service, the most serious situation was recorded in the Iargara settlement, southern Leova district, where the dam of a lake with an area of two hectares broke, with the water drained in the second lake, placed nearby, and thus eventual floods were prevented. By 3 am, the situation was stabilized and at present, the water level has already dropped by more than 10 cm. The dwellings of the region were not hit.
At the same time, 30 households were affected in the Loganesti village, central Hincesti district, with the water penetrating in 15 of them. And there were interventions to take out water from the basement of an apartment block in the Hincesti town. Similar actions were taken in other settlements too. Special services keep the situation under control, in order to prevent emergency situations in case of new precipitation, including through strengthening dams and coordinating actions.
The heaviest rainfall was recorded in the Chisinau city on 31 May evening, with 60 litres on one square metre registered. The situation is under control and the consequences have been removed.
Unstable weather is expected on the next period, with possible showers and hail. At the same time, the State Hydrometeorological Service said there was no danger of floods because of the increase in the water level in rivers and lakes at present.
In the end of the meeting, the prime minister demanded setting up of an active cell, led by the Civilian Protection and Emergency Situation Service, which is to permanently keep an eye on the developments in the emerged situation and act to remove the consequences.
“My request is that you communicate between you very well, have a direct connection during time. We have heard the weather forecast, yet beyond the assessments we should make, we must permanently communicate. I want to also receive the present reports; the more accurate are they, the easier will be for us to undertake the needed measures,” Pavel Filip added.
