Chisinau, 1 June /MOLDPRES/ - The International Children’s Day today was marked in the parliament within a meeting of the children’s parliament, the legislative body’s communication and public relations department has reported.

For the first time ever, about 50 young people from different Moldovan regions, including children from community centres, aged between 10 and 18 years, acted as MPs for one day, while guided by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu.

Traditionally, the meeting of children’s parliament started with honouring the tricolour flag. In the beginning of the meeting, the presence in the hall was announced at the parliament’s main rostrum, and subsequently the working agenda was approved. The meeting was led by the parliament speaker and two deputy speakers, elected from children.

At the beginning of the meeting, children watched a short film about what the parliamentary institution represents and how it works, the way the laws are worked out and adopted, how the legislative process is carried out.

Subsequently, at a session of questions and answers, the parliament speaker answered a string of questions put by the small lawmakers about the work in parliament, the risks the latter entails, what a child should do to become an MP, how a day of the lawmaker’s life looks like, etc.

‘’The work of MP is interesting due to the diversity of the problems approached. It is a relatively hard work, yet it depends on each MP how much he/she wants to get involved. Each lawmaker has his/her role and work. The greatest risk for an MP is not to be loved by the citizens who elected him/her,’’ Andrian Candu said.

In the end of the meeting, the children voted a declaration on ensuring friendship between the parliament and the children of Moldova. The document will be brought to lawmakers’ knowledge by the parliament speaker at the next parliament meeting. The small MPs encourage the parliament of Moldova to be attentive to the topical subjects concerning children, adopt normative acts for the protection of children’s rights. At the same time, the children urge the lawmakers to continue the European way, to elaborate useful and necessary laws in a state based on the rule of law.

For their part, the children publicly took the commitment to study well, in order to become a strong generation and capable to help modernize the country.

‘’We are small, yet we are brave. The curiosity, ingeniousness, creativeness prompt us to look with confidence into the future and show that Moldova is a nice country, with good people and happy children!’’ says the Declaration voted unanimously.

Andrian Candu congratulated the small MPs on the Children’s Day, wishing them a nice childhood.

‘’Thank you for you exist. Childhood is the most beautiful period of the life, you will realize this later. For you, the most important thing now is to study, as to know, discover is important both for you and for the country where you live. To fulfill your dreams, you must work, and the work means for you to study,’’ Andrian Candu said.

The speaker also said that the winners of a contest of drawings , Europe through Children’s Eyes, organized at the parliament on the occasion of the Europe Day, would be nominated through a transparent procedure. Those over 50 drawings by children will be displayed on the Facebook page of the parliament, and 12 drawings of children will be included into a calendar of the parliament dedicated to the Europe Day, and the authors of the drawings will go to leisure camps from Romania, due to the support provided by the Romanian government.
