Moldovan PM meets IMF executive director

Chisinau, 1 June /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today met Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund Menno Snel, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
At the meeting, the PM reiterated the cabinet’s firm determination to have a new agreement with IMF. ‘’The agreement with IMF is very important for us, as it will unlock the financing from abroad, and will strengthen the relations between Moldova and the development partners. An accord with IMF means regaining the trust of the foreign partners in Moldova, as well as an assumed reforms’ agenda,’’ Pavel Filip said.
In this context, the prime minister said that the legislative package on consolidating the regulation and independence of the National Bank of Moldova and the National Financial Market Commission was promoted and would be implemented in parallel with the justice reform and with applying the anticorruption measures and the ones on backing the business environment.
For his part, the IMF executive director welcomed the reforms promoted by the government in the banking sector, efforts to reform the justice and the anticorruption measures. He voiced confidence that these packages of laws would be passed as soon as possible.
The prime minister agreed with Menno Snel that the programme with IMF ensured not only access to the financial assistance, but also represented a good platform for promoting the reforms. Pavel Filip gave assurances that the authorities would undertake all needed actions to carry out the reforms in the key sectors, established jointly with IMF experts.
