Romanian Interior Ministry creates crisis cell in charge of investigating SMURD helicopter’s crash in Moldova

Chisinau, 2 June /MOLDPRES/-The Romanian Interior Ministry (MAI) created a crisis cell after a SMURD helicopter has crashed in Moldova. A statement to this effect was made by Romanian MAI’s spokesperson, Monica Dajbog, today.

The Romanian MAI confirmed the death of the four SMURD crew members- doctor Mihaela Dumea, from “Sfintul Spiridon” hospital, from Iasi; medical assistant Gabi Sandu, pilot Doru Gavril and co-pilor Voicu Soican.

The state secretary of the Romanian Interior Ministry, Raed Arafat is going to pay an emergency visit to Moldova. Arafat is also the founder of SMURD service. The Romanian official will participate in the investigation of SMURD helicopter’s crash.

Dajbog also said that the Moldovan Civil Authority announced that the wreck of the helicopter was found at 15:00. It was produced in August 2014 and inspected in 2016. The pilot had an experience of 4,000 hours of flight.

According to Moldovan Prosecutor General’s Office, the criminal investigation based on the Article 263 (2) of the Criminal Code, on the violation of traffic security or operation of air transport has been started.

A group of experts arrived at the place of crash. Moldovan prosecutors are currently taking joint actions with their Romanian counterparts, from the Prosecution Office of the High Court of Cassation and Justice of Romania.

A SMURD helicopter crashed near Haragis village, Cantemir district today. All four crew members: pilot, co-pilot, medic and paramedic had died. The SMURD helicopter and medical staff belonged to the department from Iasi city.
