Chisinau, 2 June /MOLDPRES/-The first deputy Prosecutor General, Eduard Harunjen, today said preliminary causes of the SMURD helicopter’s crash could be technical malfunctions or bad weather conditions.

Harunjen said villagers had heard two strong booms before the crash happened, which could possibly explain the technical malfunctions version.

“Currently, there is a working group made of representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office and best investigation officers of the Interior Ministers. Access is burdened by the difficult place, as there are many fallen trees nearby, which make the team’s mission harder,” Harunjen said.

“Experts are going to get the helicopter’s black box, to establish the exact cause of the accident. Bodies will be transported to Chisinau today, to be subjected to forensic examination,” Harunjen noted.

The deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP) Gheorghe Cavcaliuc said “more than 300 policemen will isolate the crash area during the night and tomorrow, to allow experts to collect all the evidence of the tragedy”.

The Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service (SPCSE) said over 40 rescuers, firefighters and paramedics are still at the place of the accident to monitor de situation. They will provide law-enforcement bodies with tents and light sources to help them carry out investigations and identify the four dead persons. SPCSE employees keep permanently in touch with the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations from Romania, to ensure a continuous exchange of information on this case.

Though it is heavily raining, villagers lighted candles near the place of the accident. A similar situation is taking place at the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau, where more young people lighted candles and laid flowers in sign of compassion towards the victims of the helicopter crash.

A SMURD helicopter crashed near Haragis settlement, Cantemir district today. All four crew members aboard: pilot, co-pilot, doctor and paramedic, had died. The helicopter and its crew belonged to the department from Iasi city.
