Moldovan president attends deployment ceremony of National Army contingent to peacekeeping mission in Kosovo

Chisinau, 3 June /MOLDPRES/- President Nicolae Timofti today participated in a ceremony of deploying the National Army contingent to the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo (KFOR), the presidential press service has reported.
The ceremony started with a minute of silence in the memory of victims of the SMURD plane crash.
In his speech, Timofti noted that due to the exceptional performance of the National Army servicemen, the Moldovan state reinforced its reputation as a promoter of peace and stability.
The head of state highlighted the importance of interaction of the Moldovan army with servicemen from other states in order to guarantee a safe environment of life in Kosovo. “Actually, the participation of international forces in the Kosovo mission becomes more important. It is sufficient to see how the security situation is developing in the region. Western Balkans is facing an impressive flow of migrants and a more aggressive recruitment activity on behalf of extremist groups”.
The president voiced confidence that the servicemen within the 5th contingent would continue successfully meeting tasks and would promote with honor the state flag of Moldova.
Attending the event were also Defence Minister Anatol Salaru and Italian Ambassador to Moldova Enrico Nunziata.
