Moldovan, Ukrainian officials discuss economic relations in Kiev

Chisinau, 7 June /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic met First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economic Development Stepan Kubiv in Kiev on 6 June. They discussed the economic relations between Moldova and Ukraine, as well as their development perspectives.
The Economics Ministry’s press service said that the two officials had opted for maintaining a continuous dialogue and resuming the activity of the Moldovan-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation.
In the context, the sides agreed on organizing a meeting of co-heads of the bilateral commission in enlarged format, allowing considering the current problems on the bilateral agenda.
Also, a special topic of discussions was related to the Moldovan government’s decision to apply quotas on imports of dairy products, meat products, as well as cement from Ukraine. The Moldovan side informed about the temporary character of the decision, which was valid until 31 December 2016.
At the end of the meeting, the officials agreed to continue consultations at level of experts in order to identify mutually acceptable solutions, and if needed, to increase quotas on products, which did not create any competition to the Moldovan ones.
