Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/- The former governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), Dorin Dragutanu, who was heard in Vlad Filat’s case, said he had not been influenced by him in taking decisions, former premier’s lawyer Igor Popa said. At the same time, prosecutor on the case Adriana Betisor said that the statements made by former governor had no any connection with the object of accusation filed in Vlad Filat’s name.
Betisor noted that Dragutanu “would have answered clearly all questions put by defense lawyers”.
Dragutanu said that “he answered with sincerity and responsibility the questions by the defense”, but avoided to provide more details.
The former premier’s lawyers demanded the recusal of the entire panel of judges, arguing that they would not be impartial. The request was rejected, magistrates described it as baseless.
Former Prime Minister Vlad Filat was detained on 15 October 2015 on the basis of self-denouncement by Ilan Sor, who said he would have given him bribes amounting to 250 million dollars, accusations rejected by Liberal Democratic leader. Filat is in preventive detention for nearly eight months, being accused of influence peddling and passive corruption in the fraud case at the Savings Bank (Banca de Economii).
The next meeting on Filat’s case will take place on 9 June and defense witnesses will be heard.
