Moldovan cabinet rules to provide one million lei to families of SMURD helicopter crash victims

Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved a decision to provide one million lei to the families of the four members of the crew of Romanian Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD), who died in an airship crash in the southern Cantemir district of Moldova.

“I want to urge you to do your utmost from the technical viewpoint, so that the money reaches the families as soon as possible. And here, I also want to offer thanks to the Romanian government for the support, a very important one, in fact, provided Moldova through the SMURD service and that we are very grateful,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in the beginning of the today’s cabinet meeting.     

The PM thanked the competent bodies, “which managed to finish, in a short time, the criminal investigation in the case of the SMURD helicopter accident. They managed to do an important mobilization, and this fact was, from my viewpoint, the most proper gesture we can offer in the memory of the SMURD heroes.”

A SMURD helicopter on 2 June crashed nearby the Haragis settlement, Cantemir district. All the four members of the crew died. The airship and the medical staff belong to the department from Iasi, Romania.  

Experts criminalists from Moldova and Romania carry out investigations to establish the reasons for the air tragedy.

The government of Romania today approved the providing of emergency assistance worth 85,000 each for the family of the physician Mihaela Dumea, and respectively, the one of medial assistant Gabriel Sandu, who died in the wake of the SMURD helicopter’s crash in Moldova on 2 June. “It is worth mentioning that the families of the pilot and copilot of the crashed helicopter were backed by the Interior Ministry,” according to a communiqué by the Romanian government.
