Moldova to annually mark Diaspora Days on third week of August

Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - The government, at a today’s meeting, approved a decision on the organization of the Diaspora Days, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.     

Under the decision, events and actions dedicated to Diaspora will be yearly organized in Moldova in the end of the third week of August. At the same time, an ordinary congress of the Diaspora will be held once in two years. The events will take place throughout Moldova under the patronage of the Moldovan government.

The cabinet took the decision at a request by representatives of the Moldovan Diaspora from different countries, who stressed the need to set a fixed period for the Diaspora Days, taking into account the experience of the 2014-2015 years.   

The document also sees the foundation of an organizational committee, due to be made up of representatives of the State Chancellery, Foreign Ministry, Labour, Social protection and Family Ministry, Culture Ministry, Youth and Sport Ministry. The committee will act jointly with other ministries and central and local administration authorities, for a good carrying out of the Diaspora Days.   

The spending for the organization of the Diaspora Days will be covered from budgetary allocations, annually approved by the State Chancellery, as well as from financial resources coming from sponsorships.  

The main goal of the Diaspora Days is to ensure the Diaspora-country dialogue, on the one hand, and country-Diaspora one, on the other hand, mobilize the Diaspora associations in the process of promoting Moldova by joint actions, meant to contribute to the country’s sustainable development.
