Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/- The Business Regulatory, Investment, and Trade Environment (BRITE) Programme of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was a strategic partner of the Moldovan government, especially of the Economics Ministry, in implementing reforms for the business environment and strengthening the public-private dialogue. Deputy Economics Minister Vitalie Iurcu made statements to this effect at a ceremony on completing the BRITE Programme on 9 June.
Iurcu said that during four years, with the support of BRITE Programme, the Moldovan authorities had managed to implement more reforms meant to meet the needs and challenges faced by Moldova's private sector, including by elaborating and promoting the law on the concept of notification in trade, amendment and completion of laws, which excluded doubling of the information submitted by economic agents to public institutions.
Another common project carried out in cooperation with BRITE was a government decision on single desk for authorization of construction works, meant to optimize the authorization of construction works and to simplify the procedure of permissive documents' issuance. Information solutions, such as Current Account and single account of taxpayer, due to be launched soon, ensured a better transparency for taxpayers and will facilitate the tax payment procedure. The single account alone, for instance, will ensure the saving of about 10 million lei when taxpayers are paying bank fees, according to a press release by the ministry.
Attending the event, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James D. Pettit underlined the BRITE Programme’s contribution to promoting the reforms initiated by the national authorities, especially, in terms of creation of attractive conditions for the business environment.
Under estimations of the programme, the support provided to the Moldovan government for implementing reforms led to the saving of 236 million dollars by the private sector. Also, the results of an opinion poll show that 72 per cent of representatives of the private sector took advantage of the benefits of USAID BRITE Programme.
