Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/ - A Moldovan-Czech business forum took place in Chisinau today. The event was organized in the context of an official visit to Moldova by Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka on 9-10 June.

In a speech given at the forum, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that this event was a good opportunity for an exchange of experience and an important signal in extending the cooperation between Moldova and the Czech Republic. “The truth is that we want a strong partnership with the Czech Republic, both from the economic viewpoint and the political one,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip stressed. He invited Czech business people to invest in the development of Moldova’s economy.

For his part, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said that “one of the main objectives is to develop the partnership between our countries and we will further back Moldova’s rapprochement with the European Union.” “Moldova is the country which takes efforts for modernizing the economy, including in the energy, transport, communications sectors, etc. and it will enjoy support on behalf of the Czech Republic to this end,” Sobotka said.

Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic said that Moldova was interested in the development of investment projects with the Czech Republic in the fields of agriculture, industry, energy, infrastructure, etc. The minister noted that a very good platform for achieving these goals represents the Moldovan-Czech inter-governmental commission for economic cooperation, which will hold a meeting in Prague this year.

Data by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS) shows that, in January-April 2016, the Moldovan exports to the Czech Republic amounted to 9.9 million dollars, up by 0.6 per cent against the same period last year. On the same period, the imports from the Czech Republic stood at 16.7 million dollars, increasing by 20.6 per cent against the first four months of 2015.
