Romanian parliament reaffirms support for Moldova's reforms agenda on European integration path

Chisinau, 13 June /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today met Romanian Senate Speaker Calin Popescu-Tariceanu and President of Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Stefan Zgonea in Bucharest. The officials tackled achievements recorded by Moldova in implementing the Association Agreement with EU, priorities of Moldovan authorities in reforms process, Moldova’s cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), social and political situation and the regional context, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

Candu referred to the legislative priorities till the end of the present parliament’s session, including consolidation of the financial and banking system, advance in justice reform and fighting corruption, adoption of laws on integrity, attracting foreign investments into the  national energy system. The Moldovan speaker underlined that the concerned priorities were found in the Roadmap on priority reforms agenda, and the parliament and government had synchronized efforts, punctually supervising the fulfilment of the commitments in the deadlines set. At the same time, Andrian Candu reiterated the importance of resuming cooperation with IMF, representatives of which informed they would come back to Chisinau on 5 July 2016 with a mandate of negotiation. 

The parliament speaker expressed gratitude and appreciation to Romania for the constant support provided to Moldova, including for the humanitarian assistance worth 3.6 million euros, recently offered to the country. “Regardless of the internal agenda, Moldova was and remains in the list of priorities of Romania, which helped our country in moments we needed support mostly. More concrete projects have been implemented on the last period, with real benefits for citizens, which motivates us to boost this pace,” Andrian Candu said.

The talks were also focused on evolution of the five-plus-two negotiations and cooperation with authorities from Gagauzia.

For its part, the leadership of the Romanian parliament reaffirmed the full support for implementing the Association Agreement and Free Trade Agreement, and agreed on setting up a permanent cooperation format and punctual dialogue between standing commissions on the matter.
