Moldova's goal to consume at least 17 per cent of all energy from renewable sources

Chisinau, 13 June /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has set the goal to consume at least 17 per cent of energy from renewable sources till 2020, in order to enhance the energy independence and cut the energy prices, Deputy Economics Minister Valeriu Triboi has said within the EU Sustainable Energy Week.   

The European Sustainable Energy Week, marked in Moldova for the third time, was launched today, with the support the EU Delegation in Chisinau. The use of renewable energy, as well as the one based on biomass, wind power, solar and hydrologic energy will be promoted at more events organized this week, the Economics Ministry’s communication and public relations service has reported.   

“The turning to account of the renewable energy permanently represents a priority for the government and the Economics Ministry, as we understand how important for us is to promote and implement these sources of sustainable energy in a country where we do not have energy. We set the goal to have 17 per cent of sustainable energy from all the energy consumption in 2020. Everything that is done is for the good of Moldova’s citizens, whom we want to pay less for the energy consumed,” Valeriu Triboi said.   

For his part, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola stressed that “an important thing for Moldova’s citizens is that this sustainable energy be accessible.” “I am glad to highlight certain positive things. After numerous discussions, the parliament finally adopted the law on sustainable energy, and once the law exists, time is ripe to enforce it. This was also provided for in the conclusions of the Council of Europe and Roadmap,” the EU diplomat said.

The EU Sustainable Energy Week was launched in 2006, as an initiative by the European Commission, which brings together hundreds of organizations and private persons from Europe, in order to spread the best practices, inspire through innovating ideas, in order to contribute to achieving the EU 2020 goals: on climate and energy, on greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, as well as renewable energy sources.
